Hartzell originally pioneered the development of the first powered smoke ventilator. Today, the Hartzell Series 69H Smoke Ventilator meets or exceeds rigid Industrial Risk Insurers (I.R.I.) guidelines for heat and smoke venting, no. IM.2.1.4 (supersedes guideline no. p.2.6).

Designed for continuous operation at 500°F exhaust air temperature, with ambient air drawn through a belt tube. Standard sizes are 18 to 60", with flow rates from 3,220 CFM to 64,035 CFM at free air.

An increasing number of insurance companies, local code bodies, and business and building owners are requiring these designated-purpose ventilators to be installed, both in existing buildings and new structures.

The advantages of a properly designed powered smoke ventilator approach to the effective removal of hot gases and smoke include:

Installing roof-mounted gravity vents alone may be inadequate. Variables such as inside and outside air temperature, wind velocity and location of sprinklers can seriously affect the performance of gravity vents. The Hartzell Series 69H Smoke Ventilator is designed to be used as a high-temperature, powered roof ventilator. It is self-contained, ready to install, wire, and put into service. Moreover, the Series 69H is designed to be used on a daily basis as a power roof ventilator (special independent electrical connections may be required), and as a gravity-type roof ventilator in the event of a power failure during a fire.

The Series 69H includes Hartzell’s tested and proven belt drive duct fan design with stack cap and curb panel for a complete vertical discharge roof ventilator. Stack cap lids open automatically when the unit is operating and close weather-tight when the fan stops. On the inlet side of the smoke vent, a curved inlet orifice increases the efficiency and performance of the ventilator. The curb panel provides a convenient method of curb mounting the smoke ventilator.

Designed for quiet operation, the Series 69H provides lower sound levels in the highest efficiency ranges and is AMCA-certified for sound and air performance.

  • Fusible link locks stack cap lids open when temperature through vent exceeds 165°F, providing gravity ventilation when power is interrupted
  • Disconnect switch on curb panel provides safety during maintenance
  • High-temperature, black powder, coat enamel coating is standard
  • Dynamically balanced at the factory prior to shipping
